Tri-County CAP worked with Governor Lynch this month
to coordinate flood relief efforts in Conway, NH.

Tri-County CAP was contacted last month by Governor
Lynch’s office to assist the state in providing immediate assistance to
residents of Transvale Acres in Conway who were flooded out when the
Saco River overflowed due to Hurricane Irene.
The State approved emergency funding for the residents and TCCAP
assisted in getting help to the residents in need of food, shelter,
transportation and other necessities in the short term
TCCAP Homeless Program staff were pulled from other areas (Woodsville,
Littleton, Berlin and Conway) to provide in-take for those needing
assistance. Staff who work with fuel assistance, weatherization, food
pantries, financial management, transportation, etc., also provided
information about available resources that may be needed.
Initially the Town of Conway had estimated approximately 80 permanent
residents were affected, but with door-to-door, on-site evaluation, that
number had climbed to 92 as of late Thursday.
TCCAP staff members were invited to utilize the Incident Command Vehicle
on site as a base of operations. Town of Conway Assessor, Tom Holmes
quickly put together a spreadsheet that listed out the ownership of the
lots within the property and the type of property that was on the tax
card (single family, mobile home, multiple homes, vacant or those that
may have travel trailers). This list was shared with Kathy McCosh, TCCAP
staff member who then coordinated the assistance efforts on-site along
with Joe Costello, TCCAP CEO. Governor Lynch was on-site to view
the damage and the relief efforts first-hand.
Red Cross volunteers were also on-site, canvassing the neighborhood
and documenting the damage.

TCCAP CEO Joe
Costello and Governor Lynch were on hand to assist with the relief
efforts.

TCCAP staff
member Kathy McCosh coordinated the emergency assistance efforts.
