Millions of Americans are confronted daily with the devastating impact of substance abuse. It is a disease that cuts across all boundaries, but it is a disease that can be treated. Whether the affected person is yourself, a friend or a loved one, Step One can make a difference.

Tri-County CAP’s Step One is a voluntary program for men and women with a history of substance abuse. This crisis intervention and sobriety maintenance center located in Berlin, New Hampshire, is a 24 hour facility that provides medical assessment, emotional support and a clean, safe environment in which clients are able to abstain from substance abuse and take the all important first step toward regaining control of their lives.

"The road to recovery is a road well worth traveling and at Step One, our goal is to assist the person suffering from chemical dependency in a caring, compassionate manner. We want to offer the chance to take the first step toward rebuilding your life."

Step One Crisis Intervention/Sobriety Maintenance Center is a three-phase facility that focuses on assisting the alcoholic/addicted person on the road to recovery. The three phases of our in-patient facility are:

  • Crisis Intervention: A three to seven day stay for detoxification and assessment, providing space and time to regain some stability to make informed decisions.

  • Sobriety Maintenance: For persons who may not need a treatment program but who may need up to 10 days to get back on the track to a substance free life. They attend all in-house groups and outside AA/NA meetings and participate in all other activities the facility provides.

  • Assessment and Referral to appropriate treatment facilities: Behavior and motivation is assessed by observation during the first 72 hours. A formal documented evaluation for substance abuse is done with a staff person after a client is on site for 72 hours. Assessments may result in placement into a Substance Abuse Treatment facility, Half-Way House, AA group, Mental Health Facility, or homeless shelter.

Sobriety maintenance is not a treatment program,
but rather a safe place to stay while seeking appropriate treatment.

Step One Sobriety Maintenance residents are expected to attend regularly scheduled group support meetings, educational meetings and 12-Step support meetings. All clients participate in community activities and conduct themselves in accordance with the community's rules and regulations.

No person shall be excluded from participation in this program on the grounds of race, color, national origin, sex, age or handicap.
